Week of Feb. 11th

Stats:  Capter 6 test on Tuesday.  Then we will begin chapter 7 on confidence intervals.

Calculus:  We will start the week by working on reimann sums and reviewing the four different estimation techniques.   Then students will evaluate definite integrals by hand.  Students will complete page 267 for homework.

Practical Algebra 2:  This week, we will spend a lot of time workin on inequalities, conjunctions and disjunctions.  Students will complete a worksheet for each type.  Also we will begin a unit on finding probabilities of simple events and applying the counting rules for permutations and combinations.

Week of February 4th

Statistics:  Homework will be about applications of z-scores and the normal distribution and will be found on page 316.  Also please begin to prepare for chapter 6 test.

Calculus:  Students will be learing about finding area under a curve by first estimation with rectangular approximation methods and then by definite integration.  Homework will be found on pages 254 and 267.

Practical Algebra 2:  Students will have homework from page 21 on solving equations, page 27 on solving inequalities, page 36 on working with absolute values and page 42 on determining probabilities.  Please study for Chapter 1 test the following Monday.

Week of January 28th

Stats:  Homeowrk will come from page 302 this week.  Please memorize charts and procedures on pages 291-292.

Practical Algebra 2:  Homework will come from lessons 1-3 through 1-6.  They will be found on pages 21, 29, 36 and 42.  These lessons will cover solving equations and inequalities along with simple probability.

Calculus:  Please study lessons 4-4 through 4-6 for your test on Wednesday.  Then we will have an assignement from lesson 5-1 on Thursday involving estimating with finite sums.

Sunday, January 20, 2013

Week of January 21st.

Stats:  Students will be completing lesson 5-4 on the binomial distribution found on page 263 before taking their chapter 5 test on Wednesday.  Then we will begin chapter 6 on the normal curve and students will be expected to find the area under a standard normal curce using z-scores.  Finally, students will be asked to complete an assignment beginning on page 303 relating to lessons 6-2 and 6-3.

Practical Algebra 2:  Students will be working on developing their writing skills to free response mathematical problems.  In these problems students, will be asked to analyze a situation, solve it and justify their work with an explanation for each step.

Calculus:  Students will be finishing up the lesson on related rates by completing an assignment on page 237 before taking their chapter 4 part B test.  They will also model a related rate during an in class project.  Then we will begin working on finding area under a curve through the rectangular approximation method.

Week of January 14th

Statistics: After midterms have completed, students will begin working on the binomial distribution and complete an assignment on page 263.  Studnts should then prepare for the chapter 5 test.

Calculus:  After completing midterms, students will begin working on related rates and complete page 237.  After the assignment, students will complete a project where they have to construct a tower and motorize car using Knects to determine related rates.  Also begin preparing for your chapter 4B test whih covers lessons 4-4 through 4-6.

Practical Geometry: There will be no homework after the midterm.  However, students will be doing preparatory work for Algebra 2.

January 9th

Stats:  We are currently preparing for our midterm and will be completing chapter 5 after the midterm.  Last assignment was page 253.

Calculus:  This week we learned how to find a linear approximation to a function at a point and also Newton's method for approximating solutions to functions.  Next we will be conquering our midterm.

Practical Geometry:  Its has been a wonderful pleasure getting to know each student.  Good luck at vo-tech when the time comes and please prepare for your final.

Week of January 2nd.

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Stats:  This week we will begin chapter 5 on probability distributions.  Homework will be taken from page 244.  Also, please study for your midterm!

Calculus:  Students will continue modeling optimization problems.  Homework will be found on page 214.  Please study for midterms.

Practical Geometry:  Students will finish working with radicals by rationalizing denominators and using conjugates for more complex fractions.  Please study for final.
