Answering a question from earlier today...

Chapter 12, number 1a in our fast track book asks us to find a 97% confidence interval for the true population slope.  To do so, we must understand both our formula for confidence intervals and the computer printout.

Formula

b - t (E) < B < b + t(E)

where b is our given slope value from the printout.  (Coefficient for Registrations) = 9.2472
E is our standard error of the coefficient for the slope.  (SE coef for Registrations) = .2145
and "t" is our t-score.

Since B is the parameter we are trying to estimate, it would not make sense to use it in our formula to find "t".  Therefore "t" is taken straight from our student's t-distribution chart.  The degrees of freedom is seven and we look across for 97%.  However, we see there is only a value given for 95% and 98% in our Actual textbook.  The value at 95% IS 2.365 and the value at 98% is 2.998.  Therefore 97% falls somewhere in between.  A good estimate of this can be made around 2.75 however, the Fast Track book reveals its exact answer to be 2.715.

So, since
b - t (E) < B < b + t(E)
9.2472 - 2.715 (.2145) < B < 9.2472 + 2.715 (.2145)

Since we likely would use an estimate of "t" and not the exact value in this case, 2.7 or 2.75 would have sufficed.  However, I believe it likely that on the AP exam, they will give a value that is easily obtained from the chart or easily estimated.
Any more questions on this can be answered tomorrow.

Week of 4/17

Geometry:  Students will continue to explore circles, central angles, arcs and inscribed angles.  Then they will move into secants and tangent lines to a circle.  Students will complete lessons 10-3 through 10-5 this week.

Algebra 1:   Students will begin operations involving polynomials.  These will include adding, subtracting and multiplying.  Students will complete lessons 8-1 and 8-2 for homework.

AP Stats:  Students will take their chapter 8 test on Tuesday.  Then we will move into regression analysis for the remainder of the week.

Stats:  Students have begun hypothesis testing for means and will complete lessons 8-3 and 8-4 for homework.

Monday, April 4, 2016

Week of 4/4

Geometry:  Students will be finishing chapter 8 with a test on Wednesday.  Then they will begin learning about circles and their properties.

Stats:  Chapter 7 test is on Wednesday!  Chapter eight will bring in hypothesis testing.  Students will finish 8-2 for homework this week.

AP STATS:  Students will finish hypothesis testing this week and they will complete lessons 8-3 through 8-5 for homework.  Their fast track will also be due next Wednesday and their test will be on Wednesday as well.

Algebra 1:  We are currently working on Scientific Notation.  Worksheets 8-4 will be done this week.  Also, please begin to encourage your students to prepare for the Keystone Exams and stress the value of performing well under the pressure of a state test.

Sunday, March 13, 2016

Week of 3/14

Stats:  Retest on Chapter 6 this Monday.  Then we will move into chapter 7 confidence intervals.

AP stats:  We will finish Chapter 7 this week on confidence intervals and then test on Thursday.  We will also hold our second round of AP practice tests this Friday.

Algebra 1:  Students will finish solving systems of linear inequalities this week and conclude the week with a chapter test.

Geometry:  Students will review for chapter 7 test on Tuesday.  Then we will begin working on Pythagorean theorem and right triangles.
